A man believed to be a foreigner is being questioned for claiming that he was carrying a bomb at a bank branch in Tokyo on Oct. 7, police said.
At around 1:30 p.m., the man got into an argument with an employee at the Shibuya branch of Mizuho Bank in Shibuya Ward, according to investigators. Alerted by the bank, officers rushed to the branch and interrogated the man. He then told officers that he was carrying an explosive.
The Metropolitan Police Department dispatched an explosives disposal team to the bank and examined the man's bag. The bag contained a game console, clothes and a mobile phone but no explosives.
Local police are continuing to question the man but his explanation of the events is reportedly unclear.
According to the bank, the man brought his bag into the ATM area of the branch and shouted he had an explosive, prompting employees and customers to evacuate.
